Golden Star Ferries

Golden Star Ferries, headquartered in the bustling port of Rafina—Attica's second busiest port and conveniently close to Athens' Eleftherios Venizelos Airport—stands as a noteworthy ferry company in Greece. Established in 2011, the company has steadily grown its fleet, currently comprising two vessels—a fully renovated conventional ferry named Superferry and a high-speed luxury catamaran known as Superexpress.

Superferry, operational since 2016, serves as the epitome of maritime sophistication. With a top speed of 21 knots, it links Rafina to popular destinations including Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Ios, and Santorini. This conventional ferry boasts a capacity of 1,760 passengers and can accommodate 280 vehicles.

The high-speed Superexpress, a luxurious catamaran and one of Greece's largest, seamlessly connects Rafina to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Naxos, Ios, Santorini, Milos, Folegandros, and Paros. Capable of reaching speeds up to 35 knots, it accommodates 1,070 passengers and 200 cars.

Golden Star Ferries ensures daily ferry crossings, emphasizing accessibility and convenience. The vessels showcase a modern design, offering a variety of seating options in their lounges. Facilities include garages, amenities suitable for passengers with disabilities, cabins catering to pets, on-board shops, play areas for children, and cafeterias. Passengers can enjoy entertainment through satellite TVs and stay connected with available WiFi.

In keeping with modern trends, the company supports electronic tickets and extends discounts to specific passenger categories, enhancing the booking experience. The commitment to excellence in service was acknowledged in 2017 when Golden Star Ferries received the esteemed "Passenger Line of the Year" award from Lloyd’s International Organization, further solidifying its reputation for quality maritime services.

Golden Star Ferries is rated 2.9 stars based on 36 users reviews.
  • I should have flown

The fact that this is rated a 4.7 is a joke. No communication on their end either. I wouldn't take the ferries again or visit any islands due to the BS
Terrible service. Always late. Ferries would go from a 3hr trip to 6hr. No structure. Chaotic getting on and off the boat. But there were 8 people yelling at you to move forward when there is a car in front of you, but no structure before or after that. Nasty bathrooms. Zero services on board. Have to pay for wifi. They changed plans a lot but no notifications.

  • Smooth Sailing

Traveled as a couple (pedestrians) from Rafina to Gavrio (Andros) at the beginning of December. Booking was made online from France, and there were no bad surprises when we were on-site. The boarding process (including scanning our COVID passes) was quick and efficient. The ship was modern, clean and comfortable. The staff was not overly friendly, but fine. Same thing on the way back to Rafina. The only little "snag" is we thought we had to fill in a form about COVID symptoms, and it turned out that we didn't have to, this formality had been cancelled (not that it mattered much, on the contrary...). I guess some people may experience something different in the summer season with boats being packed with tourists, the scorching heat and the cancellations due to the μελτέμι wind. However, based on my own experience, I would recommend Golden Star Ferries.

  • Great ferry

    Fast and easy boarding.
    Fast ferry with good facilities

  • FERRY PAROS-IOS and IOS-PAROS

    [Translated from French]
Apart from a little delay on arrival because of the wind, everything was good.

  • Excellent service!

Dear Golden Star Ferries crew, thank you for the excellent service!

  • I absolutely do not recommend booking tickets here

I absolutely do not recommend booking tickets here. The tickets were supposed to be electronic, but that's a lie. I have not received any tickets. The ferry from Mykonos to Naxos was delayed, no information, no explanation or even a word of apology. Office staff very rude. I travel a lot, but this is the first time I experienced such arrogance. My ferry from Naxos to Mykonos was scheduled for 9:15 am the office changed the ferry to 1:45 pm i missed my flight !!!

Thank you for your feedback. It is highly appreciated.
Please note that when you book e-tickets this does not mean that somebody sends you the tickets / boarding cards via email automatically. It means that you can do the web check in yourself before your trip and receive your boarding card in electronic format in order not to have to go to the port kiosk to pick it up.
Detailed instructions for Golden Star's web check-in procedures were given in your booking confirmation email.
We are sorry to hear about the delays you faced during your trips. We contacted Golden Star ferries who informed us that indeed they changed your departure time to be at 13:45 (due to their general rescheduling). As per the information we received from Golden star ferries they sent you an informing email to your mobile 5 days before your trip date to inform you and you went to their local central agency on Naxos and cancelled your booking one day before your trip date.
We remain at your disposal for any further clarification.

Highly impressed by both voyages with Golden Star Ferries i.e. Super Ferry 2 from Rafina to Paros and then Super Runner from Naxos to Rafina. 1) Boarding, directions and luggage storage excellent; 2) Maintenance and cleanliness of vessels excellent; 3) Allocation of seating (Super Runner) and travel comfort excellent; 4) Vessel organisation and safety systems excellent; 5) Scheduling of service excellent.
