Piraeus Port
The largest and most important of Athens ports is Piraeus, about 10 km south of Athens city centre. It is also the largest port in Greece. Most Greek ferries depart from Piraeus. The history of this port is long, as this is where the Athenian fleet used to moor in the ancient times. Although in the centuries that followed the port of Piraeus fell in disuse, in the last decades it has managed to become the third busiest port in the world, as it carries about 20 million passengers a year.

Free shuttle bus for transportation within Piraeus port:
There is a free shuttle bus connecting Gate E7 with the Gates E3, E2 and E1 approximately every 20 minutes when there is a ferry departure from these gates. The free shuttle bus stop is situated inside Gate E7, opposite Piraeus Metro station.Greek ferries destinations from Piraeus port.
Piraeus usually covers the schedules to the most popular Greek islands, including Cyclades, Dodecanese, Eastern Aegean islands and Crete. Apart from the normal ferries, there are also catamarans, high speed boats and flying dolphins to the Saronic islands.

By metro: The port of Piraeus is reachable via 2 lines: The blue line from Syntagma and Monastiraki and the green line from Omonoia and Monastiraki. The metro station in Piraeus is right in front of the port. It is the only port of Athens to be reachable by metro.The metro of Athens works from 05:30 am till 00.20 am. On Fridays and Saturdays, it works till 01.30 am. A normal metro ride takes about 25 min. There are trains to Piraeus from all metro stations every 10 min (maximum). Ticket price : '1.2' 'EUR' (1.2 Euro).
Download the Athens Metro Map (PDF)By bus: To go to the port of Piraeus, passengers have to take Bus 049 from Omonoia to Piraeus or Bus 040 from Syntagma to Piraeus, get off at Kotzia Square (Piraeus centre) and then walk about 10 minutes to the port. These buses depart from Omonoia/Syntagma to Piraeus every 15-20 min. Normally buses in Athens work from 05:00 am till 23:30 pm, but Bus 040 from Syntagma to Piraeus works 24 hours. Ticket price : '1.20' 'EUR' (1.20 Euro). The port of Piraeus is very big and has many gates, so make sure you know from which gate your ferry leaves.
By taxi: A taxi will normally take about 30 minutes to go from Omonoia/ Syntagma (Athens centre) to the port of Piraeus. The distance is about 10 km. The taxi fare (indicative) from Athens city centre to Piraeus port is '20' 'EUR' (20 Euro) in day time and '25' 'EUR' (25 Euro) in night time (24:00-05:00).

By metro: You can reach the port by metro. It is the only of Athens' ports to be reachable by the metro system. There is a metro station just outside the airport. You take the blue line which has its terminal just outside the port of Piraeus. The first metro train from the airport leaves at 06:10 am and the last at 23:34 pm. The routes from and to the airport depart every 36 minutes. The whole ride will take about 1 hour. Ticket price: '9' 'EUR' (9.00 Euro). Once you get at the port of Piraeus, make sure you find the gate from where you ferry leaves.
Download the Athens Metro Map (PDF)By train: You can reach the port directly by train (Proastiakos). The station is the same as for the metro, just outside the airport. The ride takes about 1 hour. There are trains all day long, every hour (at 07') from 06:07 am and the last at 22:07 pm. Ticket price: '9' 'EUR' (9.00 Euro)
By bus: Bus X96 covers directly the route from Athens airport to Piraeus port. Buses operate 24 hours and the trip takes about 90 min. Buses leave every 25-30 minutes in the day and from 22:30 pm to 05:00 am they depart every 40 minutes. Ticket price: '5' 'EUR' (5.00 Euro).
By taxi: There are taxi queues outside all gates of the airport. A taxi ride from the airport to Piraeus port will normally take 40-60 min the most, depending on the traffic. The taxi fare (indicative) from Athens airport to the port of Piraeus is '50' 'EUR' (50 Euro) in day time and '65' 'EUR' (65 Euro) in night time (24:00-05:00).

Rafina Port
The second busiest port of Athens is Rafina. It is actually a small and lovely town to the north of Athens that looks like an island. It has a lovely waterfront, beautiful squares and many taverns to have a meal. Rafina is located about 30 km from the centre of Athens, 40 km from the port of Piraeus and 10 km from Athens International Airport.

The port of Rafina is the only port that serves a vessel to Andros, as it is closer than Piraeus. There are also vessels to Tinos and Mykonos, while in summer there are vessels to Ios, Naxos and Santorini.

By taxi: A taxi will normally take about 1 hour and 15 minutes to go from Omonoia/ Syntagma to Rafina. To get closer to Rafina, visitors can take the blue metro line to Nomismatokopio metro station and take a taxi from there. The trip from Nomismatokopio to Rafina will take about 35 minutes. The taxi fare (indicative) from Athens city centre to the port of Rafina is '50' 'EUR' (50 Euro) in day time and '65' 'EUR' (65 Euro) in night time (24:00-05:00).

Lavrio Port
Lavrion is a small, coastal town at the southernmost tip of Attica peninsula. In ancient times, it was a mine area, which reopened in the early 20th century. Today the mines have closed but Lavrion gets lively from its port, which serves nearby and remote islands. Lavrion is 60 km from the centre of Athens and 25 km from the Athens Airport.

Ferries from Lavrion go to the nearby island of Kea and the Cycladic island of Kythnos. Ferries also serve remote Eastern Aegean islands, in particular Lemnos and Agios Efstratios.

To get closer to Lavrion by public transport, you can take the tram from Syntagma or Faliro to Voula (Asklipiio) and then take a taxi. A taxi ride from Voula will take about 30 minutes. The taxi fare (indicative) from Athens centre to the port of Lavrion is '65' 'EUR' (65 Euro) in day time and '80' 'EUR' (80 Euro) in night time (24:00-05:00).
